One of the projects we've launched through the Reuters Innovation group is Reuters Market Light.

This is a 'bottom of the pyramid' (really a 'top of the bottom of the pyramid') business delivering agricultural pricing and real-time weather information to farmers. The business is progressing strongly and we're now hiring a COO.

Reuters Market Light: Chief Operating Officer

 

RML is a ground breaking new service delivering news alerts to farmers in India through a new mobile platform which will provide accurate weather forecasts and local price information so that they can get the best possible price for their crops.

 

The project has a need for a chief operating officer to provide strong leadership and have full accountability for end to end service development and delivery.  In addition, this candidate will take the primary lead in developing the brand strategy and customer acquisition for the service.

 

Key responsibilities:

• Management and direction to core business activities, providing a regional senior management presence

• Development and delivery of the business plan, e.g. preparing the roadmap for service expansion in the region

• Overseeing the day to day demands of operations across a wide range of functions including technology, content, production and procurement

• Developing the brand for the new product, and the associated customer acquisition strategy

• Managing and monitoring vendor contracts and ongoing partner relationships

• Reviewing and monitoring financial and operational performance

• Line management of team, with overall responsibilities for team development, training, recruitment and retention with support from HR

• Support the MD of the business in formulating strategies for growth and operatonal effectiveness

• Deliver on the financial, people, customer and operational metrics as agreed with the MD

 

The role will be based in Bangalore, although the team is distributed across Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi and London.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have the capacity to grow and develop the team, managing ongoing change as the project scales.

Ideal candidate will be currently responsible for managing P&L of a consumer business unit preferably with a telecom operator, a platform provider, or with a fast moving consumer goods company.  Agriculture/ Rural/ Commodities and or / mobile platform delivery experience would be an advantage to the successful candidate.
